How to Play Bingo: A Beginner's Guide to the Rules of 75-Ball Bingo
Ever wanted to join a game of bingo but felt a little unsure about the rules? You've come to the right place! Bingo is one of the easiest and most fun games in the world, and this simple guide will turn you into a confident player in less than five minutes.
We'll be covering the most popular version of the game: 75-Ball Bingo.
The Bingo Card Explained
Your bingo card is your key to winning. It's a 5x5 grid of numbers with the letters B-I-N-G-O across the top. It looks complicated, but it's organized in a very simple way.
- The Columns: Each letter corresponds to a set of 15 numbers. This helps you find the numbers quickly.
- B: Numbers 1-15
- I: Numbers 16-30
- N: Numbers 31-45
- G: Numbers 46-60
- O: Numbers 61-75
- The Free Space: The center square is a gift! It's already marked off for you and can be used to complete any pattern that passes through the middle.
How the Game is Played: The 5 Simple Steps
- Get a Card: Every player gets one or more unique bingo cards.
- Know the Pattern: Before the game starts, the "caller" (the person announcing the numbers) will say what the winning pattern is. For your first game, it will likely be a simple straight line—horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
- Listen for the Call: The caller will draw a number and announce it, always saying the letter first. For example, they'll shout "G-52!".
- Mark Your Card: Hearing "G-52," you only need to look in the 'G' column on your card to see if you have the number 52. If you do, mark it off with a pen or a bingo dauber.
- Shout BINGO!: The first player to mark off all the numbers to complete the winning pattern shouts "BINGO!" to claim their prize.
