Redefining Romance: 3 Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day often gets a bad rap. It feels commercial, forced, and let's be honest—finding a dinner reservation is a nightmare. But a few years ago, I stopped treating it as a "couples only" holiday and started seeing it as just a good excuse to celebrate the people I like.

Whether you are planning a grand romantic gesture or just want to eat chocolate in peace, here is how to reclaim the holiday.

1. The "Galentine's" Brunch

This Parks & Rec tradition has taken on a life of its own for a reason. Gather your girlfriends, forget the roses, and focus on waffles.

  • The Vibe: Pink drinks, comfort food, and zero judgment.
  • The Activity: We love playing "Rom-Com Movie" Bingo. Put on a cheesy movie (you know the ones) and make bingo cards with tropes like "Misunderstanding at the airport," "falling in love in a montage," or "obvious product placement." It turns a bad movie into a hilarious group event.
    • Use our Bingo Generator with the 'Hearts' theme to make these in seconds.

2. The "Anti-Valentine's" Self-Care Night

Sometimes the best company is your own. Turn off social media (this is key) and treat yourself.

  • The Vibe: Face masks, expensive takeout, and your favorite playlist.
  • The Activity: Do absolutely nothing productive. If you want to game-ify it, make a "Self Care Bingo" for the month of February. Squares could be: "Drank enough water," "Went to bed early," "Bought myself flowers," "Said no to plans I didn't want to do."

3. The "Low-Stakes" Date Night

If you are in a relationship, skip the pressure of the Fancy Dinner. The best dates are often the simplest.

  • The Vibe: Cook a complicated meal together at home (even if it burns, it's a memory) or go for a night walk with hot chocolate.
  • The Activity: Play a "Relationship History" trivia game or bingo. Make cards with memories: "Where we had our first kiss," "The meal we ate on our first date," "The name of our first pet together." It’s basically a nostalgia trip disguised as a game.
